Data Science is in demand and guess what it’s not easy to break into this field. Therefore, the process of preparation for interviews is crucial .

Let’s take a look at things you can follow to crush your next round of data science interview .

🏹Read thoroughly

Read read and read, both the job description and about the company. Primly, read about the company like what business they do, their mission and their culture. Go through their websites or blog posts, linkedin page and even search them on google to get a fair understanding of the company. It does sound cliche, but it’s very helpful to know about company. It empowers you to ask relevant questions in the interview. It can give you an idea about how the role will look like and also about learning and growth prospects that company can offer.

🏹Review resume

This step may sounds boring and trivial, but trust me it’s helpful. Review your resume before interviews, and between each stage of the process. Scan it well and know what is in it, as the interviewer can ask questions on anything that is written in your resume. So, you need to be confident about your resume.

🏹Know about yourself

Prepare your story. This implies you shall be able to tell about yourself. Ahh, you must be thinking it’s the same old boring question. Guess what it is one of the most important and initial question in any interview process. The motivation behind this is, the interviewer would like to know how you turn up in the data science or why you want to be in this field. Sit with yourself, play in your mind your path to the data science. Frame it in key points and narrate your journey to the interviewer. Trust me if the story is crisp and is able to convey your journey, you do earn the interest and respect of the interviewer.

🏹Talk to recruiter

Be, in contact with the recruiter and always ask about the whole process. You can surely ask for the interviewer’s name and their linkedin details. Ask them what resources you should use while preparing for the interview and can even ask what you should wear to the interview. This makes you feel more prepared and give a sense of confidence by eliminating the fear of unknown.

🏹Mock drills

The actual interviews can be nerve wrecking, so try to do mock interviews either with your friends or with yourself. With friends you can ask for a real time feedback and while with yourself, you can record and listen to it the next day.

🏹Be Inquisitive

In the data science field, we have a virtue of asking questions on anything and everything. Try to implement the same in interviews. The problems presented in interview are to be questioned in order to understand its scope and the constraints it has. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. Interviews are not about finding the exact answers to the problem, but it’s about understanding your mindset, the process you will follow and how will you collaborate with others to solve it.

🏹Strike a conversation

It may sound weird but take the interviews like the conversations you have with your friends on the various topics in data science. Talk about yourself, your day, your interests in data science and start a conversation with interviewer. This makes the whole process seamless and you less nervous.

🏹Documentation

Post every interview try to document the process and the questions you were asked. Since you will be appearing for other interviews it will be helpful as a guide to look at every-time you prep for next data science interview .
